PFT: Jones-Drew will be a no-show at camp

Rex Ryan loves Santonio Holmes, he just wants him to stay in his lane.

The Jets coach said Thursday he appreciated Holmes? input, but would prefer he limited it to catching passes.

Holmes said recently that he didn?t think two-quarterback systems (such as the Jets are planning with Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow) can work in the NFL.

But Ryan offered a rebuke with his rebuttal, in an interview with ESPN?s Sal Paolantonio (via ESPNNewYork.com?s Rich Cimini).

?Well, I understand what Holmes is saying, you know Tone?s talking about a guy . . . [the starting quarterback] has to get a feel and all that kind of stuff,? Ryan said. ?But I brought Santonio in here to be a receiver, not to be the offensive coordinator. And that?s the way it is.

?I love Santonio, but if I wanted to hire him as our offensive coordinator, we would?ve.?

The man he chose for that job, Tony Sparano, defended Holmes? right to his free speech, but obviously disagrees, since it?s what he?s implementing.

?First of all, every player is entitled to their own opinion,? Sparano told Paolantonio. ?Every person is entitled to their own opinion. I been around long enough to know that there?s a lot of definitions of two-quarterback systems, and what some of these things mean, and what they don?t mean.?

Even though Holmes? message may have lacked nuance, there?s a kernel of truth in what he says. Sanchez might lack the ability to gain a certain rhythm if Tebow?s coming in to run around. But the bigger problem the incumbent has is handling the pressure of keeping Tebow on the sidelines.

It?s nothing more than good theater at the moment, and the Jets have just the cast of characters to keep things fresh.

Classic Pasta Salad Recipe + Summer Party Set GIVEAWAY ...

To help me get started they sent their insulated Tubbies to work with, which I used to keep ice cream and pasta salad nice and chilled. Now they?re giving?one away as part of?a summer party ice cream set, which I?ll tell you about in a minute.

First, I want to share one of my favorite pot luck side dishes with you ? a Pasta Salad recipe. I got this from a friend about 10 years ago after she served it at a backyard cookout. I love the creaminess, the crunch, and the perfect balance of flavors, and I?think you will too.

Classic Pasta Salad

16 oz box pasta ? elbow macaroni works well, as does petite penne

5 hard boiled eggs, chopped

1/2 medium onion, diced

1/2 green pepper, diced

4 stalks celery, diced

1 cup shredded cabbage

1/2 tsp. celery seed

* 1/3 cup sweet pickle relish* optional

black pepper to taste

Dressing

1 1/2 cup mayonnaise

1/2 TBsp mustard

1/4 cup sugar

1/4 cup vinegar

1/4 tsp salt

Cook pasta al dente and rinse and drain. Add pasta and all salad ingredients to a large bowl.

Mix together dressing ingredients and pour over pasta salad. Combine well and cover.

Place in refrigerator and let chill for at least 2 hours or overnight if possible.

India: Assam clashes kill 19 as thousands flee rioting

Tens of thousands of people fled their homes in the Indian state of Assam after clashes killed 19 people, according to the BBC.

The police have shoot-on-sight orders to deal with the violent clashes which erupted over the weekend between indigenous tribes people and Muslim settlers, according to The New York Daily News.

The police fired warning shots to disperse armed groups on Monday, setting fire to houses, Reuters reported. A senior police officer said, "We saw miscreants burning down village after village on Monday."

The fighting in Kokrajhar claimed 15 lives while four were killed in Chirang.

A curfew has been imposed on five "sensitive" areas in the district, according to The NY Daily News.

The BBC noted that there have been tensions between the Muslim Bengali migrants and Assam's tribal people for many years, mostly revolving around land rights. The current unrest was sparked with unidentified men killed four young people on Friday, near an area dominated by the Bodo tribe.

The AP said India has sent troops to quell the riots and opened shelters for the nearly 30,000 people who fled the conflict.

Mysterious healing powers of birds' nest soup remain unsolved

Edible birds? nests that are believed to have high nutritional and medicinal value by traditional Chinese medicine are now being turned into food and drink additives as well as put into cosmetics, say researchers.

Removing them can be dangerous and painstaking work, and, depending on the type of nest, it can take one person eight hours to clean 10 nests, the researchers wrote.

The nests are considered to have a high nutritional and medicinal value, believed to have everything from anti-aging and anti-cancer properties to the ability to improve concentration and raise libido.

Protein is the most abundant constituent of the nests, which contain all of the essential amino acids, the building blocks out of which proteins are made. They also contain six hormones, including testosterone and estradiol, the researchers wrote.

The nests also contain carbohydrates, ash and a small quantity of lipids (naturally occurring molecules that include fats). Previous research has indicated that the nests contain substances that can stimulate cell division and growth, enhance tissue growth and regeneration, and that it can inhibit influenza infections.

But not everyone reacts well to them. Birds? nests are known to cause anaphylaxis, a life-threatening allergic reaction.

Little research has been carried out on their biological function so far, and more is needed to better understand the qualities attributed to them, they concluded.

Kahne wins at New Hampshire, 2nd victory of season

LOUDON, N.H. (AP) ? The best car was rolling toward victory ? until its driver and crew chief couldn't agree on how many tires to change.

Kasey Kahne capitalized on that confusion between Denny Hamlin behind the wheel and Darian Grubb in the pits to win his second Sprint Cup race of the year and make a leap toward one of the 12 spots in the Chase that determines this year's NASCAR champion.

"For those guys to miscommunicate, that helped us a ton," Kahne said. "I'll take 'em any way we can."

Hamlin's Toyota led for 150 of the 300 laps at the one-mile New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Sunday. His communication wasn't quite as good.

Kahne, who finished second two weeks ago at Kentucky to Brad Keselowski, went ahead to stay during a restart on the 240th lap when Hamlin spent extra time in the pits as his crew changed all four tires.

Hamlin wanted just two new ones.

"Darian asked me how much of the tires I felt I'd used up. I felt like I had used up a substantial amount," he said. "(I said) give me tires and no adjustments. He thought I meant four tires. Nothing's a given. Even though it looked like we had one in the bag if we took two tires, you never know."

Kahne doesn't feel he stole a victory.

"I wouldn't say 'stolen.' We ran in the top four the whole race," he said. "We were in pretty good shape, (but) if he was to keep the track position I never would have passed him."

Hamlin's longer pit stop left him all the way back in 13th place, but he kept passing cars until only Kahne remained in front. Then he simply ran out of miles and Kahne won by 2.738 seconds.

It was the 14th win of Kahne's career and first since May 27 at Charlotte. Clint Bowyer, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Keselowski rounded out the top five.

The victory enhanced Kahne's chances of qualifying for the Chase, the last 10 races of the season in which the top 10 drivers in the point standings win automatic berths. Two additional spots go to the drivers with the most wins who are ranked 11th to 20th in points.

Kahne went from 16th to 12th, and his two wins are more than anyone in the second group of 10.

"We've been pretty tough all year, but we just haven't finished 'em off a lot of the times," Kahne said. "From here on out, we need some more top 10s and top fives the rest of the way. It doesn't get us in the Chase yet, but it does help with a win today."

The turning point came when the third caution flag came out on the 234th lap for oil dropped on the track by David Reutimann.

Hamlin went into the pit, telling Grubb over the radio that he wanted tires. Grubb, who first planned to change just two, interpreted that to mean four. As Hamlin went back on the track, Grubb told him, "My bad, bud."

After the race, Grubb took the blame: "That was 100 percent my fault."

And Hamlin knew how costly the mistake was.

"You try to be optimistic, but you pretty much know your chance of winning has been pretty much taken away if there are no cautions," he said. "Darian has won me a couple of races this year, more than he's taken away from me."

The win was the fifth of the year for Hendrick Motorsports in 19 races. Seven remain before the Chase begins at the Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Ill., on Sept. 16.

Kyle Busch, the pole-sitter, led the first 66 laps before his own costly pit stop. It took longer than usual as his crew had a problem with the right tire. Then there was more trouble ? a drive-through penalty against Busch for entering pit road too fast. When he finally returned to the track, he was all the way back in 22nd place.

Busch finished 16th.

Hamlin, Busch's teammate with Joe Gibbs Racing, took over the lead after that problem.

Sam Hornish Jr., replacing the suspended AJ Allmendinger, came in 22nd. Allmendinger was suspended about 90 minutes before the race at Daytona International Speedway last weekend after a urine sample taken the previous weekend at Kentucky Speedway came back positive for what his team identified only as a stimulant. His "B'' sample is to be tested, probably this week, with his toxicologist present.

Kahne should have a more relaxing week. With no Sprint Cup race next weekend, he has time to savor his win, no matter how he got it.

"We did it with good pit strategy, got the track positions," he said, "and we were able to lead those final laps."

Forget about the ghost town label that?s been stuck on Google+. And it doesn?t matter if you won?t actively use Google+ (perhaps Twitter, Facebook and what else are sufficient for you). You should still create a Google+ account. Why? Because Google can display your author information, which it obtains from your Google+ profile, in its search results. This can boost your image? literally.

The search result page is no longer just hyperlinks any more. They now come with small square author pictures and the authors? names below individual search results. It?s nifty. Plus it also gives readers the option to visit your Google+ profile straight from a search page from which they may even start following you and click on links you post or read other articles you?ve written. Readers also have the option to filter their search results to only show other articles you?ve written.

To include author information to search results, Google has to match your Google+ profile (it has to be public) with your articles. It?s not difficult to set up, as shown by this tutorial, and does not require any genius computer or coding skills, thankfully.

Author information in search results is still a Google pilot project but a quick Google search will clearly show that a number of people have already adopted it?especially bloggers. To be honest, I don?t know if author information gives you an advantage (e.g. pulls in more clicks) over others in the search results battle. From my own experience however, I find that I click on those results with author information more often, even if I?ve never heard of the authors.

In any case, it is becoming increasingly important to market yourself. You have to be out there networking and you have to work on your online presence and visibility. Perhaps having Google show your author information under articles you?ve written is a box you?d want to tick.
